Dickinson First youth - DFy

The world tells us to do whatever benefits ourselves — even if it means cutting corners, bending the rules, or ignoring what’s right. But Jesus calls us to defy that by choosing integrity, standing for justice, and doing what is right no matter the cost.

DO WHAT IS RIGHT

The world tells us to hold grudges, get even, and only show kindness when it’s convenient. But Jesus calls us to defy that by forgiving as we’ve been forgiven and extending mercy even when it’s difficult.

FREELY SHOW MERCY

The world tells us to chase recognition, build our own platform, and make ourselves the center of attention. But Jesus calls us to defy that by serving others, lowering ourselves, and remembering that He is greater than us in every way.

YOUR HUMILITY MATTERS

DFy is a place where students learn to live differently — not because it’s easy, but because following Jesus is worth it.

What We Do

DFy Sunday School

DFY Sunday School meets at 10am on Sunday mornings for our 6th–12th grade students and provides a space to go deeper in faith. Each week, we take a closer look at the scripture being preached in our worship service and explore what it really looks like lived out in the halls of our schools, with our friends, and within our families. It’s a time for honest conversation, real-life application, and growing together in understanding and faith.

DFY YouthNight

YouthNight happens every Sunday evening at 5pm and is designed for students in 6th–12th grade to connect, grow, and have a whole lot of fun together. We start by sharing a meal, because life is better around a table, then jump into a game that gets everyone laughing and involved. From there, we dive into a practical lesson about how God fits into our everyday lives — at school, with friends, at home, and in the middle of real struggles. We wrap up in small groups where students can ask honest questions, have real conversations, and make their faith personal in a supportive community.

UM Army

UM ARMY is coming up July 5–11, and we’re inviting our incoming 9th graders through current seniors to be part of this incredible week of mission and growth. Even though our site hasn’t been assigned yet, we know it will be a powerful experience filled with hands-on service, meaningful relationships, and faith-stretching moments. Since 1979, U.M. ARMY has been helping students meet real needs through home repair while growing in their faith and leadership skills — and we’re excited to continue that legacy. We’ll be fundraising to help cover the cost, and we don’t want finances to be a barrier. If you’re even thinking about going, register now and be part of what God is going to do this summer.

Summer Camp

Since 1947, churches across the Texas Annual Conference have sent students to summer camp in the Piney Woods of East Texas, and for generations, Lakeview Methodist Conference Center has introduced thousands of youth to God, authentic community, and a faith that lasts. This year, June 15–19, our incoming 3rd graders through graduating seniors have the opportunity to be part of that legacy — for some, even walking in the footsteps of their parents who once experienced camp themselves. Camp is $425 per student, and registration begins through Dickinson First UMC. Please don’t let cost keep your child from attending — scholarships are available, and we are committed to helping every student who wants to go experience this life-changing week.

A Note From Lowell

I’m so glad you’re checking out what’s happening in our Youth Ministry at Dickinson First UMC! From Sunday mornings and Youth Nights to camps, retreats, UM ARMY, special events, and plenty of random fun in between, there are so many opportunities for students to grow in their faith, build strong friendships, and make lasting memories. My heart is to create a place where every 6th–12th grader knows they belong and can take real steps in following Jesus. If you have questions, want to get your student connected, or are interested in serving with our youth, I’d love to talk with you.
